Gum Infections - A Serious Complication During Pregnancy

Did you know that you are at more risk for dental problems during pregnancy? Basically, there are times in your life when you will be at an increased risk for developing gum infection, and pregnancy is one of those times, but in the end, it all boils down to dental care. If you allow plaque and bacteria to sit in your mouth, on your teeth, and between your gums, then you will likely at some point end up with gum disease. To prevent gum infections, brush your teeth correctly at least twice a day, floss, and see your dentist regularly, especially during pregnancy, when you are at an increased risk. When you decide you are ready to have a family, or find out that you are pregnant, after you schedule your OB appointment, you should immediately schedule a dental appointment as well. Make certain that you alert your dentist.
