It is time to take some serious action if your most recent dental appointment revealed that you have gingivitis or periodontal disease. Apparently, your current system is not keeping your mouth healthy because you are beset with bad breath, bleeding and swollen gums. Having a normal toothpaste is good, however it does not protect you from everything and certainly does not guarantee that you will keep your teeth and gums healthy. What you need to do is to take charge and take oral hygiene to the next level. Observing proper oral hygiene and dental visits have changed the lives of gum disease sufferers. When it comes to going to the dentist, most patients have some anxiety because they are afraid that the dental hygienist will have to spend lots of hour picking at their teeth which can be painful.

Any form of the use of tobacco should be stopped. The use of smokeless tobacco and smoking can heighten your risk for tooth decay, oral cancer, gingivitis and gum infections. Not to mention the tobacco also bring bad breath and stains on your teeth. In prevention of dental problems and gum infection, you must regularly examine your oral cavity. You are always in the best position to be aware if there are any changes in your mouth even if you visit the dentist in a regular basis. It is only a few times a year that your dentist sees you, that is why it is you who can examine your mouth weekly to look for changes that might be needing concern. Changes may include the swelling of the gums, discolored teeth, chipped teeth, mouth sores or lesions on the gums, cheeks or tongue. For tobacco users, regular dental examination is vital.

Did you know that you are at more risk for dental problems during pregnancy? (...)

Did you know that you are at more risk for dental problems during pregnancy? Basically, there are times in your life when you will be at an increased risk for developing gum infection, and pregnancy is one of those times, but in the end, it all boils down to dental care. If you allow plaque and bacteria to sit in your mouth, on your teeth, and between your gums, then you will likely at some point end up with gum disease. To prevent gum infections, brush your teeth correctly at least twice a day, floss, and see your dentist regularly, especially during pregnancy, when you are at an increased risk. When you decide you are ready to have a family, or find out that you are pregnant, after you schedule your OB appointment, you should immediately schedule a dental appointment as well. Make certain that you alert your dentist.

Dental problems when experienced should be given utmost importance as the problem may not be easy to treat when not prevented earlier, as it can cause gum inflammation and infection, leading to a more serious medical concerns. One must always seek the intervention of a dental professional to treat gingivitis and periodontitis. The goal of the gum disease treatment is to prevent and control the infection. If you only have prevented plaque to form on your teeth, you could have avoided these dental problems.

Why do you need periodontal surgery? There a lot of reasons for that and one of them is to be able to regenerate or regrow gum tissue so that you can save your natural teeth. If gum disease remains untreated, there will be a destruction of the gum and bone attachment to the teeth. Infections in the gums may result once plaque has already moved down to the roots of teeth, causing a more serious damage to the bone that supports the teeth. Gradually, teeth may become loose and tooth loss may occur. Because we all are prone to gum disease which is a chronic condition that causes tooth loss and affects overall health, we should always be in constant and careful attention to keep periodontal health safe with proper oral care.

Any disorder of the gums or the soft, bony tissues that surrounds the teeth is known as gum disease, which is the most common infection in America, next to the common heat cold. Swollen gums occurs in the first stage of gum disease which can definitely lead to loss of teeth, and the incidence of gum disease increases as people age. The first stage of gum disease is called gingivitis or the inflammation of the gums. The sticky plaque is a composition of bacteria, mucus and rotting food debris or food particles that covers the tooth, which eventually settles down at the base of the tooth. The start of swollen gums is due to the build up of dental plaque on teeth.
